Links, conversation and American Crew

I plan to get back to my normal blogging schedule soon, which basically means extraordinarily irregular posts about Scandinavian myths, genre movies and cultural phenomena. But first I want to link to and thank all the sites that have picked up our recent campaign for American Crew Hair Recovery.

The Denver Egotist's post sparked the most conversation. David Burn at AdPulp really took the time to sort through the work and write about what he liked and what he didn't. It was awesome to see our stuff on major national sites like Creativity, Shoot and AdRants. And on May 4, our website was Communications Arts' Webpick of the Day.

UPDATE: On June 15 the site was added to the public shortlist at The FWA. And as noted by The Denver Egotist, the print campaign was in Communication Arts' Exhibit on July 6.

Karsh\Hagan launches American Crew Trichology Hair Recovery

Hairloss.americancrew.com and youtube.com/askamericancrew are up and running. Karsh\Hagan created the sites and the 103 videos on them for our client, American Crew. The videos were shot by Roshambo Films and the site was developed by The 1st Movement.

The print campaign that drives men to the site is currently running in GQ and other national magazines. And non-traditional out-of-home is under construction in New York and other big cities. In the meantime, I'm going to post six of my favorite videos. Two new ones will go up on this blog every morning. Enjoy.

New stuff for American Crew

Karsh & Hagan's new book for American Crew, Where There's Man There's Crew, was just published. Dave was the art director. Holly, Justin and I all got writer credits. The book was shot by David Raccuglia in Los Angeles, Chicago and Denver.

The new American Crew website is just about done, too, but most of the new content and design is for-stylists-only. Karsh & Hagan and FL-2 worked together to create it.

I'm a senior copywriter or something like that

My job title is senior copywriter. But am I? Sure I love to do radio. And I'm still fond of the 12-word headline and the 30-second spot. But I like them not for their own sake, but because done right, they make life better - funnier, more beautiful, more useful. I'm equally proud of work like our campaigns for Regis and Kappa Alpaha, which can't be called "advertising" in the traditional sense.

With that in mind, I put a book with some of my favorite recent print and digital work on SlideShare. It makes me nervous, because some of the best ads I've written aren't included. But sooner or later, you have to move on. And I have. With two exceptions, all the work in this book been done within the past 24 months. Even though all online portfolios always suck, I hope it puts a smile on someone's face.

New work for the Kappa Alpha Order: Brasstacks

Kappa Alpha Order is a nationwide collegiate organization that wants to be known for its commitment to chivalric ideals. At Karsh\Hagan, we created the position, "The moral compass for the modern gentleman." And then we set out to prove it by developing a movement to inspire gentlemanly behavior at college.

The hub of the experience was a 54-page book named Brasstacks, which was given to freshmen men on 50 campuses. It aimed to give readers "the tools to enjoy freshman year. Without becoming a jerk." Mobile phone users received text messages that helped them excel in their studies and social life. At Brasstacks101.com, students signed up for encouraging emails and downloaded Brasstacks art and t-shirt designs. Karsh\Hagan also distributed posters, stickers, bookmarks, coupons and other materials.

We took on KA because we were offered the chance to make a difference in the lives of young men, right at a point when they face a dizzying array of temptations. We'd never seen it done before, so we wanted to do it. We also got a chance to improve our mobile marketing, work in the media arts, and tap some great illustrators.

I'm so proud of the work I just want to burst. Thanks to Karsh\Hagan and KA for letting me do it.

New Karsh\Hagan agency site

Our new site is on the tubes at karsh.com. Some of our recent digital work isn't up yet. But the site feels cool and clean to me.

Stories from Regis

Regis students participate in something called service learning. They perform surgeries in Africa, work with startups in urban areas, raise awareness for burn victims, build houses in New Orleans, and generally make the world a better place. The students return to campus with astonishing photos, stories and videos.

As Regis' agency, we wanted to give potential students a window into these experiences.

Our work debuted last week with a series of posters, barricade signs and banners at Cherry Creek Mall. But the print is only the door to a richer experience. As the stories evolve, people can read posts at regis.edu/service and follow future trips at twitter.com/regisservice. Over time, we'll help build a narrative around student blogs, YouTube pages and photo streams.

Regis students are doing inspiring things. Helping them tell their stories is an honor.

UPDATE: Dave Schneider of Karsh\Hagan was the art director.

TT&D launches parkcitymountain.com

Just noticed Thomas Taber & Drazen has the new parkcitymountain.com online. The coolest functionality is the vacation planner, which makes planning your trip drag-and-drop easy. I worked on this account when I was at TT&D, and it's nice to see the site up.
